History of the Persian cat

Persian Cats Have Mysterious Origins

Persian cats were imported into Europe from Persia in the early 1600s. The long-haired beauties were immediately prized for their exotic looks and were named after their presumed homeland. However, their true origins remain obscure, and nobody knows how long they’ve been around. Learn More

himalayan origin

In the 1950s, early breeding programs involved crossing Persian cats with Siamese cats. Marguerita Goforth is credited as the person who helped perfect the modern- day Himalayan breed that we know today. The Himalayan inherited its luxurious coat from the Persian and its deep blue eyes and colorpoint features from the Siamese. Their long fur requires daily grooming and care to prevent matting, tangles, and hairballs. The Cat Fanciers' Association accepted the Himalayan as a color division on the Persian breed standard in 1957. Other cat registries, such as TICA, however, consider the Himalayan a separate breed of its own.

F.A.Q.

  • All kittens will have their vet exam, 1st shots, optional CFA registration papers, health guarantee, blanket with their sibling’s scent to feel comfortable, some food and supplements to get started that first week, as well as some other goodies in their going home bag.

  • All kitten families are required to do the responsible thing and have their new Joyful Journey Persian spayed or neutered as soon as their local vet feels they are old enough. To keep your pet with the same lovable temperament, having them spayed or neutered is a must!

In certain situations we may allow customer’s to purchase breeding rights, at our discretion for an additional fee. However, if you choose to unlawfully breed your Persian, or have an “oops” pregnancy with your Persian kitten, you can be held liable to additional breeding fees. Those fees are $1000, plus $1200 per kitten born from that breeding, plus any and all court costs associated, and lawyer fees.

  • This is a common question I get asked. The answer is: to an extent. When you choose a kitten, the only payment required at that time is a non-refundable fee of $200. In order to pick up your kitty, the balance is due. I am completely ok with accepting a weekly amount up until you are ready to pick up kitten. For example, if you are coming in 5 weeks to get your kitten, we can split the remaining balance into 5 weekly payments of $200 each. But all fees will need to be paid in full before your kitty leaves my house, whether you pick up, or we head to the airport.

  • Although the fee is non-refundable, it is transferrable. Meaning you can transfer it to a family or friend who wishes to purchase a kitten and gets approved after submitting an application. Or you can transfer the deposit to a future litter.

  • No worries, we ship safely! We can work with you, as we have an insured, reliable pet transport company that we have used with just about every litter. We bring kitten most of the time to the Dulles airport in Sterling, VA, and they fly in on standby with their pet carrier. It’s equipped with puppy pads, cleaning wipes, everything they need to keep your new baby comfortable. They are professional, and they update us every step of the way. Your pet flies with them in cabin, never cargo, which means right there in the seat as a passenger with them to be watched over 100% of the time. You will need to be ready to meet them as soon as they get off the plane, as our pet flight nannies usually have another flight lined up to hop on and head back, shortly after. Check out our map on the Testimonials page to see where some of our pets have traveled to already! So far it seems their prices have ranged between $450-$550 per trip. If you are interested, I’ll pass along their contact info.

In addition to flying, we have another company we have worked with who came to our door, picks up and drove to my customer’s house and delivered. They were a little cheaper, but they do pick up other pets along the way, so the time separated from us was a bit longer.

  • Nothing!

“Persian” is the name of the breed. “Himalayan” is one of the Persian color divisions. Himalayan colors mean that their body is all one color, and their points (or noses, ears, paws, tail) are a different color, and their eyes will be a beautiful sky blue color!
